Happy Places

I am at the beach. Cannon Beach in Oregon, I believe. Definitely Oregon in any event. I am sitting on a branch located on the beach, gazing into the ocean. The light is grey, it is cloudy, and I feel a bit cool, all surprising to me for the time of year (June). This stretch of beach is a bit deserted. I am enjoying the quiet. I can hear the waves gently lapping against the shore. My husband is with me. I am relaxed; we are on vacation! I am feeling content, an almost un-natural feeling for me, as I am never content. I also feel a bit nervous as my husband takes my picture. Just being with my husband, no real expectations, no family around, just the two of us – bliss!

We drove down with our truck, fifth wheel attached (aka my “hotel on wheels”). I call the RV my “happy place” for all the (mostly) good memories.

I enjoy the cooler weather on this vacation. I remember the time when the RV wasn’t my “happy place” – 95F weather in Nevada with the truck overheating as we drove around, trying to find our campsite, after buying a part for the RV. Setting up the RV in sweltering weather is not my idea of a good time and made me pretty cranky.

After I cooled off – in more ways than one, thanks to the A/C – equanimity returned, but not before a few cuss words. (I’m a firm believer in the healing power of swearing)!
