Gull Lake and Cochrane, Alberta

We took a brief trip to Gull Lake and Cochrane last week, Gull Lake to attend a family reunion, and Cochrane to check on my mother-in-law, who lives in continuing care in Calgary, Alberta.

We stayed at Summerland RV Park near Gull Lake. Here is my capsule review of the same:

FYI There are no dog friendly beaches at Gull Lake.

  • Helpful and accommodating management- Ok to leave Bailey in crate in the RV to attend family reunion supper
  • Clean well maintained sites and campground with some seasonal sites
  • Pay showers, a personal pet peeve of mine
  • Laundry facilities
  • Spotty wi fi
  • Have to pay for mini golf even if a guest at campground, but they do offer a discount
  • Close to Bentley and Lacombe
  • Some sites back on to highway 12 – a busier highway than we expected
  • Unfortunately, it rained the whole time we were there. Even Bailey was bored.

Next, we stayed at Spring Hill RV Park near Cochrane, Alberta, here is my review:

  • Like camping in a Walmart parking lot, but with services and less street lights. The sites are extremely close together, no privacy and only tiny strips of grass separate the sites.
  • Three 81-2 X 14” paper print out of rules forced to initial.
  • No refunds only a credit (we had to check out early). We don’t plan on returning so now we are forced to if want to get our money back.
  • Don’t take site 97 – especially if it has rained a lot. Our site was partially flooded. Another site was offered but it wasn’t a level site. It is also right beside the maintenance yard which was extremely noisy.
  • Open year round. Appeared to be a lot of full timers living there.
  • On the intersection of two very busy secondary highways.
  • Ok to leave our dog in the trailer in the crate while we went to deal with my mother in law.
  • Don’t buy any food at the convenience store – we were too tired to go into Cochrane to get milk. A 2 liter of milk at the shell store was $7!!!!
  • A much better option, that is right in Cochrane, appears to be Bow Rivers Edge but it was full when we had to go.
