Our Jasper Story

As news of the devastating wildfires in Jasper, Alberta, broke, and the desolation and destruction and heartbreak became clearer, my thoughts turned to our trips to Jasper.

We made three trips to Jasper for an extended family reunion on my husband’s side. We would meet at Whistler’s Campground. One of the trips, I was in charge of booking all four families’ reservations and, due to Parks Canada’s reservation system at the time, and the fact the reservations time out, and addresses for each reservation were required, everyone lived with us!

The last trip we made to Jasper was in 2012, and that was to celebrate my in-laws 60th wedding anniversary. There was quite the crowd at that time, all my in-laws’ grandchildren and great-grandchildren were there. It was a special time for all of us, with unique foods including deep-fried turkey, and other great eats. We brought dessert: https://thedaysofkate.home.blog/2012/07/26/kit-kat-dessert-2

There was even special music, an original song by my husband’s nephews taking us through 60 years of their marriage.

And of course, lots of photos were taken, including a family photo.

I think Mom and Dad – in – law had a good time and appreciated our efforts to celebrate their 60th in a memorable way.

My husband and I hope to return to Jasper, Alberta with our 5th wheel one day soon but the rebuilding will take time.

Until then #Jasperstrong!
