We spent a few days at the end of August at Bow Valley Provincial Park. (Note, as of 2021, A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required. The cheaper option is $90 for a year unless you are only going out to the Kananaskis once, as it is $15/day otherwise). This is a great little campground nestled along the river and most sites are treed, providing lots of shade. Willow Rock Campground, by contrast, is wide open and offers no trees or shade.

Bow Valley Provincial Park is a short drive from Canmore, Alberta, part of the reason we went camping there. The other reason we went camping there was to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed the getaway and I enjoyed the fact that for our anniversary, I didn’t have to cook much; we got a pizza from Rocky Mountain Flatbread company and took it back to our trailer to enjoy with some wine and dessert.
I got my husband this rather appropriate anniversary card:

We walked around Canmore, enjoying the window-shopping and even bought some stocking stuffers! There’s lots of shopping and dining options in Canmore if you want night off from cooking like I did.
This area has lots of places to hike nearby as well, however at the time we went, there were bear warnings or construction closures in some of the places, so we settled for a long walk on the outskirts of the campground to Middle Lake; however the lake was pretty dry as the area has not had rain for quite sometime.
A nice relaxing time for our anniversary.
